Soooooo, after many emails from parents, and very few from students I am glad to finally present what our 4th quarter will look like. So it is 6 weeks long. Apparently there is nothing that happens during the finals week. So for each week we can give 2 hours of work. So therefore there is a "max" of 12 hours worth of class we can do. So depending on the week there will either be a short lesson for each day(averaged to 24 minutes). Maybe 2 or 3 days combined for a slightly longer lesson, or just one 2 hour lesson/assignment. They do not want us to give 6 weeks of class to just do all at once. So each week on Monday the 1-5 lessons will be posted for the entire week. You have until Sunday night at 12 roughly 160 hours later to work through it as you desire. If you or a family member happen to be impacted by covid-19 please let me know so I can make an exception for you. We wouldn't expect you to do work during that time.
How it impacts your grade?
This is definitely the odd part. There is no set direction other than it can't hurt you. That being said if you try to do an assignment/quiz/lesson and it stinks or you didn't try, it is not supposed to help you either. I am going to basically say for each lesson or assignment you need to get a passing grade of a C to get credit.
How much will it help my grade?
While most of you will just be doing class for the love of learning, and your appreciation of history I realize some people are more focused on their final grade. So here is how it will work. Those that did well the first 1/2 of the semester are obviously in a better place. It is also significantly harder to get up each grade level. My structure will reflect that. When I say below each assignment, if it is a 1 day assignment it will count as 1. If 2 days 2. up to a week is worth 5.
If you have an F, each assignment and you complete the work at a C or better level you can earn up to 1.5% each day. So up to 45% hypothetically for the 30 days.
If you have an D, each assignment and you complete the work at a C or better level you can earn up to 1% each day. The gap between F and C is very small so this wont take too long.
If you have an C, each assignment and you complete the work at a C or better level you can earn up to .75% each day.
If you have an B or higher each assignment and you complete the work at a C or better level you can earn up to .5% each day.
The most anybody can possibly go up is 2 letter grades, and even that will be difficult. But there is still an opportunity to move up. Your work still must be quality enough though to move up. If it is not C level work then that day is similar to in class where poor work doesn't help your grade.
IF YOU ALREADY HAVE AN A-Well what can we do to inspire you to do some academic work during this time?
1. Top Grade earns student of the month to start of next year. You wont be in my class, but you will be getting an awesome shirt to show off your success.
2. Any students who continues to work hard and has an A can come ask for a letter of recommendation to use in college if they need it at all next year. It will reflect how in the midst of difficult times and the fact you had an A you continued to push yourself despite it not being necessary for your grade.
3. Going back to the beginning of the year, hopefully you will get to learn something, which just could make your life a little better. These are crazy, unique, weird, sad, interesting times we are in. Hopefully you have gotten to the point sitting around all day where you realize that doing work and learning isn't as bad as doing nothing all day. Build discipline, pretty soon you are going to need it in life.
